Introduction

I am a student of Applied Information technology. Currently I’m taking a course named ‘Big Data Needs Analysis’, which provides me many idea of what Big Data is and why it is so important. The reason why Big Data is important can drive to several features: First, research [1] shows that with a growing trend of Big Data, indicating that “Massive growth in the scale of data or big data generated through cloud computing has been observed.” In other words, it is a trend current happening around the world, by combining latest computing technics, Big Data influence not only academic fields but also industries as well. For those famous websites, they collect massive information, which is Big Data, from users to infer the shopping trend of customers and provide them advertisements which most relative to them.

Second, before I applied George Mason University, I was trying to find a job. By looking into the trend of what job is popular at the time, we can see that expert of Big Data is always list on the top 10. Although I became a website developer later, I’m still been very interesting about this field, which now leads me to become a student of AIT.

Big Data: Conceptions, key technologies and application

A summary of Big Data, quantitative evidences are provided in the essay. The author first introduce what Big Data is, then move to the definition of Big Data. To better evaluate Big Data, the author further provide a comparison of traditional databases and Big Data. To give a clear picture of the difference of Big Data and traditional databases, the author use the source of data to show why the application is different in different field. At the end of the article, the author indicates the advantage of Big Data, emphasis the importance of this field.

This article provide a technical view of Big Data, which includes many algorithm and images to demonstrate the mechanism of Big Data. Many different charts are included in the essay, which provides a clear picture of many ideas of Big Data. The essay also provide many information about problems that current Big Data are engaging and several algorithm to solve those problems. Another related technic – Cloud Computing is also discussed in the passage, bring the reader a better view of how Big Data works with other new technologies.

This article focus on security of Big Data on cloud computing and several problems might occur during this process. It also provides information about external integrity verification, which is an important topic of security. The article try to evaluate Big Data in a big picture, by summarizing and analysis the relationship between Big Data and Cloud Computing. The article also provides many images about the system architecture and hardware structures of Big Data, which those clear images, the relationship between each components become clear and obvious. Algorithm diagram is also provided in the essay, helping readers to get a clear idea of data flow and data structure of Big Data Topic.

Advanced communication systems for enhanced big data technology and applications

This article talks a lot about how different fields are connected to Big Data. For example, with the growing trend of Big Data, field like networking, data mining, information security and privacy protection all have connections and interaction with Big Data. There are six papers that selected to be the main content to review. This article talks about some very complex concept related to Big Data. For this reviewing article, there are many details and some terms are very difficult. It is a review of specific area and the technical content contains in a high proportion in this article.

This an article with many practical information. The essay combined programming aspect, reflecting that with the progress of Big Data, programming skill will also change. Weathering a New Era of Big Data

A brief introduction of Big Data, using weather focus as foundation to start the essay, then move to different field and examples to evaluate the importance of Big Data. Several weather institution are mentioned through the essay, including NOAA and NWS. The application of Big Data is mentioned, showing how Big Data currently involving weather forecast field.

With a chronicle development of the essay, the development of Big Data is clear and obvious. In addition, the author also points out the limitation of Big Data – limited by computer power.

THE BIG CHALLENGES OF BIG DATA

Previous essay indicates the limitation and challenge of Big Data, and that leads me to this essay. This article starts with Biologists, one of the field that take part in the Big Data field. By analyzing the life cycle and go into the details and challenges that happens in Big Data.

From the formal article, I know that the biggest challenge of Big Data is the limitation of computer, and this article holds the same view. However, the challenge on Big Data doesn’t happened in different phases, including handling, processing and transferring information.

Beyond the hype: Big data concepts, methods, and analytics

This article well evaluated what Big Data is. Unlike most conception in academic field, Big Data is a term that its definition is unclear, just like what the article explained ‘‘big data’ as a concept is nascent and has uncertain origins.’ Usually, Big Data is a relatively conception, which is very ambiguous. In this essay, the author find out there are different ways that shows the definition of Big Data.

The author then provide a way to identify Big Data, which is three Vs. The three Vs are Veracity, Variability and Value, which give a simple way to identify and define Big Data.

Since Big Data has a strong connection to business field and often take part in business decisions, thus sometimes technical content might just reflect certain aspect. This article try to introduce Big Data by a business aspect rather than technology, by mentioning what Big Data can do to intensify business strategies. It didn’t go into details about what Big Data is and how it is applied in technology aspect, but use examples to show what Big Data can do and contribute to a company to earn more money.

Big Data: Promises and Problems

This article provides a great view and examples about Big Data. Most of the articles define Big Data with 4 Vs: that is volume, velocity, veracity and value. This article not only provide the concept of 4 Vs of Big Data, but put into a quantitative way, giving a rough number to define Big Data, which is very rare. The article also cite two examples to show the application of Big Data in different areas, that is NASA and social media fields. Latter it comes back to the business field and focus on the problems that Big Data are currently engaging.
